Turloughmore 0-16  Gort 0-15

Turloughmore captured their second U-16A title in a row and their fourth in six years, in Kenny Park on Saturday after Richard Doyle lifted the cup for his side.

Conor Shaughnessy opened the scoring for Turlough with a fine free following a foul on Sean Linnane, and he doubled the lead moments later with another free from the same position after Sean was fouled again.
Gort then opened their account through a score from their top player, Aidan Helebert, but it was quickly cancelled with another Shaughnessy free followed by a superb point from play after Conor Shaughnessy gathered possession from a throw in.
Sean Linnane, who was being double marked from the outset, then scored two great points in quick succession on the stand side of the field.
Conor Shaughnessy added four more points to his tally before the end of the half, one from play after he caught a Gort clearance, and three from frees, with Sean Linnane winning two of them.
Gort kept the scoreboard ticking over throughout the half however and were still in contention going into the second half.
In defence, Jamie Holland and Sean Loftus held the fort well, while Daragh Joyce gave an outstanding display from corner back.
Half time score: Turloughmore 0-10 Gort 0-4.

The second half started brightly for Turloughmore, with Jamie Holland surging forward scoring a great point straight from the throw in. Turlough failed to push on from there however and slowly began to let Gort back into the game, with some wasteful use of possession.
Jamie Holland scored another point from a long range free, but by now Gort were staging a serious comeback and were starting to believe that they could win. The middle of the field seemed to be very crowded, resulting in the Turlough players struggling to get going.
Jamie Holland scored another point from a free, while Sean Loftus was winning plenty of possession in the wing back position and set up Sean Linnane for another point from play followed closely by a great effort from Ronan Duffy.
With five minutes remaing it had become a one point game. Jamie Holland scored another long range free, following a foul on Richard Doyle, to put two points between the sides but this was cancelled out yet again by another point from Gort’s in form Aidan Helebert.
Then, with the game in the melting pot, Richard Doyle won a vital free and Jamie proved once again that he really does have nerves of steel as he steered his long range effort over the bar in final moments, silencing the loud jeers of the Gort fans. Gort managed another point to put one between the sides again, but Turlough held on for a memorable victory.

This was another sweet success for this team, and it is interesting to point out that they have never been beaten in any grade, which is an incredible achievement. They really are a great bunch of players and we are lucky to have them in our club.
Well done to all concerned!
