The Under 7 & 8 teams did well on Sunday in a well organised tournament in Craughwell. The Under 8 team reached the semi-final where they were defeated by Craughwell by 0-3 to 0-1 in a great game.
The second side reached the final of their division where they performed with distinction before losing out to an impressive Clarinbridge team by 1-4 to 0-1.
Well done to the team management, the players and all concerned in what was a most enjoyable day’s hurling. Well done to Craughwell too who hosted a very well organised event.
Pictures to follow shortly.....
Craughwell
GAA Juvenile Committee organized an U-7/U-8 Hurling Tournament in the clubs
training ground on Sunday the 23rd of September. There was 7 Clubs invited
(Athenry, Clarinbridge, Ardrahan, Kilconieron, Turloughmore, Oranmore-Maree
& Kilnadeemna/Leitrim).
The weather was perfect for the event, and
the pitches were in great condition to hold the matches. With over 260 players,
plus parents and supporters, the pitches were a buzz of activity.
The
matches ran off on time, and there were some outstanding matches - most notably
the semi-final of the U-8 section between Turloughmore and Craughwell was one of
the best games of juvenile hurling at any age this year. It had skill and
passion in abundance from both sides.
Craughwell U-7's performed very
well and got to the Semi-Final, only to go down to the eventual winners
Clarinbridge. Clarinbridge came out on top in the final against Turloughmore.
Craughwell U-8's won their group, with some keen contests with Oranmore and
Athenry. They then met Turloughmore in Semi-final which was an epic match from
both sides, Craughwell coming out on top by 0-3 to 0-1. Craughwell met
Kilnadeemna/Leitrim in final. In a tight affair, Kil/Leit got the all important
free that was the difference between both sides in the end.
The U-7's
and U-8's from all clubs can be proud of their display's and bodes well for the
young lads next year. Craughwell Juvenile committee would like to thank all the
clubs for coming and many thanks to the parents and helpers and referee's who
made the day a success for the club and all the clubs involved.
