Seniors disappoint against Gort 06-05-2017

Turloughmore Senior hurlers failed to scale the heights of their first round victory over St. Thomas' by losing comprehensively to Gort in Kenny Park, Athenry on Saturday 6th of May 2017.

Turloughmore were dealt a major blow with Fergal Moore failing a fitness test prior to the game with Philip Doyle earning a call up at corner back.

Gort started brightest with Gort's Richie Cummins opening the scoring however this point was replied with two Turloughmore points from Richard Doyle and Matthew Keating.

After 10 mins, Gort were still leading the charge on a scoreline of 0-5 to 0-3 with Aidan Harte influencing the game for Gort. Jamie Holland (3) and Conor Shaughnessy (1) converted frees while Sean Loftus put one over from play leaving the Game 0-8 to 0-10 with Gort ahead at half time.

Even though Gort got the first score of the second half, the tide began to turn with Barry McDonagh, Sean Linnane and Jamie Holland scoring which saw Turloughmore drawing level by the 45th minute.

Gort began to fight back again and converted 3 unanswered points by the 50th minute with a save from Paul Dullaghan keeping the game alive.

Brian Murphy replace Michael Morris on the 55th minute with Ronan Badger replacing Conor Shaughnessy.

Ronan Badger instantly scored a point after entering the play to leave four points in the game with 5 mins remaining. Brian Murphy also saw his shot on Goal go agonisingly wide.

The game was slipping away from Turloughmore at this stage with Gort latching on two further points and a last minute goal to see the game out.

This was a very disappointing performance by Turloughmore on the day with Mark Murphy and Daithi Burke the pick of the team. A big improvement will be needed for future rounds.
