Turloughmore 2-3 Clarinbridge 0-4
Turloughmore won the U14 D final in Athenry on Saturday when a fine first half showing put them on the way to victory. With the aid of the breeze, Turloughmore led by 2-3 to 0-0 at half time and ultimately that set the foundation for the win.
Turloughmore got off to a great start when wing forward Jack Hansbury finished to the net within the first minute. Shane O’Brien soon set up David Giles who shot a neat point to leave Turloughmore 1-1 to 0-0 ahead after four minutes.
Turloughmore went on to dominate that opening half and were probably worth a bigger lead. Aaron Moran, who was in fine form at midfield, sent in a ball on 10 minutes and full forward Shane Burke shot his side’s second goal. Within two minutes Brion Connolly crossed and Shane Burke shot a fine point to give Turloughmore a 2-2 to 0-0 lead.
Clarinbridge did have a goal chance four minutes from the break before Turloughmore finished the half with Shane Burke’s second point to thus build a 2-3 to 0-0 interval lead.
Clarinbridge had breeze advantage for the second period and while Turloughmore had chances, they failed to bother the scorekeeper in that second period. Indeed within 2 minutes of the restart, Clarinbridge Ryan Flanagan saved from Aaron Moran – he also saved from Shane Burke ten minutes later.
Turloughmore, who won this corresponding championship at U12 level two years ago, now saw Shane Donoghue, Ross Hynes (free) and Shane Ryan shoot points to leave it at 2-3 to 0-3 with 7 minutes left, though a really threatening comeback never really materialised. In injury time Turloughmore keeper Cian Dalton did well to bat down a dangerous delivery before Shane Donoghue completed the scoring with a Clarinbridge point to leave Turloughmore victorious on a 2-3 to 0-4 final scoreline.
Apart from those already mentioned, the full back line of Diarmuid Mullen, Kevin Daly, Kevin Keane, along with Robert Culkin, Robert Dunleavy, Joseph Morris, Niall Bree, Ronan McDonagh, and subs Sean Coakley, Ryan Keating and Padraig Connolly all played their part in this fine win.
Afterwards, Aaron Moran received the man of the Match award. Well done to all concerned with this team on this great win.
