Tynagh Abbey Duniry 3-9 Turloughmore 4-3
Tynagh Abbey Duniry defeated Turloughmore in the U14B semi final in Ballinasloe on Monday evening. The winners were inspired by a fine showing by Thomas Gordon, brother of senior star Paul, who scored 2-9 of his teams’ tally, with 1-6 coming from frees.
Tynagh Abbey Duniry got off to a great start going 1-1 ahead within two minutes, as they created space in the Turloughmore defence and in turn crowded out the Turloughmore attack.
But Turloughmore soon settled and corner forwards Conor Walsh and Cathal Holland shot two good goals to leave Turloughmore 2-0 to 1-1 ahead on four minutes. Four frees in a row from Tynagh Abbey Duniry had them 1-5 to 2-0 ahead on 15 minutes, before Sean Lyons got onto a Mark Fahy free and Lyons goaled to ensure Turloughmore were level at 3-0 to 1-6 at the break.
The second half continued in similar fashion, with Mark Fahy, from a well struck free, and Dylan Connell shooting early second half points, but Tynagh Abbey Duniry soon added another goal and with 12 minutes left it was 2-8 to 3-2 to Tynagh. Then Conor Walsh & Tiernan Collins combined to set up Sean Lyons for his second goal and suddenly Turloughmore were level again – 4-2 to 2-8.
Tynagh Abbey Duniry went 1 up with 3 minutes left, before they goaled from a free to leave 4 in it. Turloughmore, who were without the services of Shane Moors and Barry Goldrick, did put on late pressure but it didn’t yield a sufficient dividend. Mark Fahy’s second free of the evening was their final score and in the end Tynagh Abbey Duniry reached the final on a 3-9 to 4-3 scoreline.
Team: Daniel Loftus, Gearoid Linnane, James Burke, James Murphy, Conor Campbell, Mark Fahy (0-2 frees), Karl Conneely, Dean Niland, Tiernan Collins, Sean Lyons (2-0), Callum Quinn, Dylan Connell (0-1), Cathal Holland (1-0), Barry Callanan, Conor Walsh (1-0).
Well done to the Management team of Peter Fahy, Tom Burke, Brendan Holland, David Collins & Kevin Conneely.
