Turloughmore 0-9 St. Thomas 1-23

In what can only be described as a major disappointment, the Turloughmore Seniors bowed out of the 2016 championship against St. Thomas' on Saturday evening in Kenny Park, Athenry.

Conditions were awkward in Kenny Park with a swirling wind which favoured St. Thomas' in the first half and the South Galway men took full advantage by racing into a 1-7 to 0-2 lead after 15 mins.

The Turlough men simply didn't get out of  the blocks throughout the first half with only a Barry McDonagh crossbar strike on goal showing a glimpse of Turloughmore potential.

The scoreline was 0-3 to 1-13 at half time with a minor miracle required in the second half for the men in black and white.

Turloughmore shot the first four points in the second half and the supporters wondered whether a comeback might be on the cards after 40 mins. This spell was however short-lived with St. Thomas' running out easy winners.

Whilst it is difficult for any team to play without so many regulars in a number of the games in this year's championship, the players will be deeply disappointed with how the year ended.

Hopefully the team will take stock and come back stronger for the championship in 2017.

Turloughmore now meet Ardrahan in a playoff in order to retain Senior A Championship status for 2017.
