A win for the Junior C’s over Sylane.

Turloughmore 2-14 Sylane 2-8

Turloughmore Junior C team travelled to Sylane on Friday evening last to take on Sylane in the third round in the championship. After a win over Padraig Pearses last week Turloughmore were hoping to add two more points to the board.

Turloughmore started the game the strongest with Donnacha Hughes getting on the score sheet with a free after Christy Kearney was fouled. The score was quickly with points from Thomas Murphy and Brendan Joyce. Some excellent play from the six backs saw the ball come to John O’Brien who put the ball over the bar. Donnacha Hughes added to his tally with a free. Jason Murphy also added point which saw Turloughmore lead 0.6 points to no sore after 15 minutes. Christy Kearney added a point after John Garrett took a free out after he was fouled on the other side of the pitch. Sylane got a few frees but always seem to drop short and were excellently clear by the Turloughmore backs. Donnacha Hughes added to the scores sheet after Adrian Morris was dragged down. After the puck out Turloughmore kept the ball up the Sylane side and Sylanes defence were kept under severe pressure by the Turloughmore forwards and a pass from Thomas Murphy to Keith McGrath saw the ball ending up in net. Keith McGrath quickly added to his goal with a well taken point and Turloughmore led 1.9 to no score. Sylane finally got on the score sheet with a free. This was quickly added to by another point from Sylane. Christy Kearney added a point to the score sheet before Donnacha Hughes added two more points. Thomas Murphy added a point for Turloughmore and that would be the last action of the first half.

Sylane started the stronger in the second half and they quickly notched up two points. Sylane forwards were applying a lot of pressure but the Turlough backs were excellently clearing the ball. Keith Fahy and Paul Costello replaced Stephen Kearns and Jason Murphy. Turloughmore were applying severe pressure on the Sylane backs and Paul Costello hit the back of the net after great play from Thomas Murphy, Christy Kearney and Keith McGrath. Sylane pointed a free and soon Sylane found their rhythm and added two quick goals before Christy Kearney added a point which was to be Turlough’s last score. David Rabbitte replaced Adrian Morris in the full forward line. Sylane got a point and that was to be the final score of the game.
