North Clare deservedly overcame North Galway on Wednesday evening in splendid sunshine in Ballindereen. In so doing they inflicted the first defeat of the campaign on North Galway. There was little between the side in the opening period, with North Clare retiring at the interval 0-10 to 0-8 ahead. Conor Fahy shot 5 frees for North Galway with Daniel Loftus adding two good efforts from play allied to a Barry Callinan point. David Mescall, the impressive Breffni Horner and Tom O Rourke shot well taken scores for the Clare side as they edged in front.


North Clare led by 3 points 9 minutes into the second half before Breffni Horner pounced for the game’s first goal – 5 minutes laterBarry Callanan finished well to the net for North Galway to leave just two in it – a margin that remained until the 55th minute when centre back Cian Minouge sent a long distance sideline cut all the way to the North Galway net to leave it at 2-15 to 1-13.


North Clare struck for their third goal in injury time when Niall Maloney put the icing on the cake to wrap up a 3-16 to 1-14 North Clare win.

Both Galway sides will now play in Quarter Finals on Saturday next, with the details to be confirmed
