Address from New Chairman Tom Shiel 13-04-2016
Tom Shiel.jpg

It’s a great honour and privilege for me to represent Turloughmore GAA club as chairman in 2016.

The GAA club is the bedrock of every Irish community and provides an organised structure from which great community spirit is generated. Turloughmore GAA Club reflects this spirit in many ways and whether it is playing for the club, attending meetings, volunteering in the social centre, managing and training teams, working on sub committees, selling tickets or supporting the weekly lotto, this spirit always needs to be recognised and acknowledged. I see this voluntary contribution everywhere within Turloughmore. In such an environment it is so important that, as elected members, we never lose sight that we represent the GAA community of Turloughmore and all our actions are on behalf of that community. I commit to the best of my leadership ability that all our dealings as an executive committee will be open, honest and fair.

Leadership is about nurturing talent, bringing people with you and not leaving a trail of bruised people behind. It is also about focus and focus requires connections with everyone working to the one vision and purpose. I have spent the last eight weeks assessing those connections and I commit to building relationships and ensuring we all work together to maximise our performances at all grades on the hurling pitch. We owe this to our community and our players and in this spirit it is time to leave the past behind and focus on the future.

As the 2016 season has now commenced it is important that we unite in one vision and one focus. That focus is to provide the best forum of support and structure to all players at all levels to ensure they can play to the maximum of their potential. Our focus must and should be on hurling and hurling development. This club oozes with ability and it is important now we harness that ability and drive on to greater things. We as an Executive Committee will do everything we can to ensure no stone is left un-turned in supporting all management teams in achieving that goal.

The Senior, U-21, Minor and Junior teams are all active in training and are putting the effort in. Our youth are represented at all levels and our coaches undertake coaching programs so that modern coaching techniques are applied and taught. We have over 200 juvenile members and our future as a club rests on nurturing our underage talent. From little acorns mighty oak trees grow!

I would like to thank all our sponsors down through the years and look forward to partnering with you again in 2016.

Finally I am making this plea to all community & club members, weigh in behind us, come on board and support us in whatever way you can as everyone of all ages can make a contribution. If you are new to the area and would like to get involved please contact any of the club officers. If you were previously a member and for whatever reason did not renew, please consider again. We need you, your club needs you. Ni neart go cur le cheile.

I want to conclude by setting a vision for all our teams in Turloughmore GAA Club.

Be the winning team that every year you promise to be.

Go raibh mile maith agat,

Thomas O Siaghail

Chathaoirleach
