One-off U-18 championships on the agenda

The GAA are considering special one-off All-Ireland U-18 football and hurling championships in 2018.

According to the Irish Independent, the powers-that-be are keen to accommodate young footballers and hurlers who were born in 2000. Following the decision to reduce the minor age limit from 18 to 17 years from 2018 at Congress last weekend, these players are left with the prospect of not having the opportunity to represent their county at minor level.

The Irish Independent understands that proposals for one-off championships will be put before Central Council shortly. If given the green light, the championships are unlikely to start until late July in order to give players some weeks to train after they complete the Leaving Cert.
