Seniors Lose Out to St.Thomas's 13-05-2015

St Thomas 0-19 Turloughmore 0-17

Turloughmore went down to their second defeat in the Salthill Hotel Senior Hurling Championship when they were narrowly defeated by St Thomas in Loughrea on Saturday.  St Thomas, playing their first game of the Championship, lined out without the injured Conor Cooney, while Turloughmore were without a number of players including Daithi Burke.

Turloughmore, who upped their performance from their opening game against Portumna, still came up short as some missed scoring opportunities and the concession of some avoidable scores proving their undoing.

Turloughmore started well and led by 0-4 to 0-1 on 12 minutes and by 0-8 to 0-6 on 22 minutes, before 3 points in the final 5 minutes of the half had St Thomas 0-9 to 0-8 up at the break. Conor Shaughnessy and Jamie Holland shot 0-3 each from frees in that opening half with the returning Cian Burke getting 2. Indeed, Burke scored the point of the half after a delightful hand pass interchange between Jamie Holland and Richard Doyle.

St Thomas started the second half well and led by 0-13 to 0-9 on 39 minutes and by 0-15 to 0-11 on 48 minutes. St Thomas, who shot 0-12 from play in comparison to Turloughmore’s 0-6 from play, were still 4 ahead – 0-18 to 0-14 – on 55 minutes before Turloughmore finished strongly.

Operating with a two man full forward line, Turloughmore hit 3 points in a row from Sean Linnane, Darren O Shaughnessy and Conor Shaughnessy to narrow the lead to 0-18 to 0-17 on 59 minutes. But that was as near as it was to get and a James Regan point copper fastened St Thomas win as they ran out 0-19 to 0-17 winners.
