Turloughmore bow out of U21 Championship

Loughrea advanced to the U21 A semi finals after defeating Turloughmore in the Quarter Final in Ballindereen on Friday. Loughrea started well, into the wind, and led by 0-5 to 0-1 after 10 minutes.

Turloughmore, who were without the injured Vincent Doyle, began to find their rhythm midway through the half. Conor Shaughnessy has opened Turlough’s account and then between the 11th and 26th minutes they shot 7 unanswered points to lead by 0-8 to 0-5.

Richard Doyle, Jamie Holland, Sean Linnane (2), Conor Shaughnessy (2), and Michael Morris were the scorers, but 3 mins before the break Jamie Ryan burst through for a Loughrea goal and by the break the sides retired level – Turloughmore 0-9 Loughrea 1-6.

Loughrea had breeze advantage in the second half and on 34 minutes Gearoid Loughnane shot Loughrea’s second goal. He then landed a 65 and a free to build a 2-9 to 0-10 lead by the 39th minute, a lead that became 2-11 to 0-10 on 45 minutes.

Turloughmore were finding it difficult to break through for scores, though a Jamie Holland free and a Michael Morris point had them back to 5 with 10 minutes left. Loughrea extended the lead to 6 before in injury time, Cillian Hurney sent in a free which Jamie Holland flicked to the net, but it was a case of too little too late, and Loughrea won by three points.
